<h4>Installation</h4>

<p>A manhole opening is required to install the unit. Installation is simple, and requires approximately 20-30 minutes per cylinder with the spring-loaded mounting.</p>
<p>Position the assembled syphon unit vertically at the approximate final location inside the dryer with the pick up shoe at the bottom (six-o-clock position). The flanged outlet of the elbow fitting should face the condensate outlet end of the dryer (toward the journal). Place the flanged horizontal pipe inside the dryer. Insert the plain end through the journal and connect the flanged end to the scoop syphon flanged connection.</p>
<p>Check the location of the syphon, making sure that the horizontal pipe extends through the journal the proper distance for the rotary joint installation.</p>
<p>Turn the hex nut to compress the coil spring and to move the counter weight (similar to the pressure plate) up and into contact with the upper part of the dryer shell. Continue to turn the nut until it has reached the weld stop. Tighten the lock nut against the hex nut. The installation is complete.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The RX rotary joint uses a balanced seal with special ball bearing or optional tapered roller bearings to support the rotor. This rotary joint from Kadant Johnson incorporates the latest technology in mechanical seal design for water and hot oil service. The high thrust load capability and carbon-to-silicon (or Tungsten) carbide seal package makes the RX run longer and with less maintenance requirements that other ball bearing designs. All O-rings are fully captured in glands and seal-loading springs do not contact the process fluid. The RX features a barrier in the seal chamber to extend bearing life and a nipple and assembly plate made of stainless steel. Available in single- and dual-flow configurations and sizes from 3/8” to 6”, the RX rotary joint is capable of operating up to 500° F (260° C), 150 psig (10 bar), and 750 RPM.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The self-supported SX rotary joint provides a positive seal between stationary piping and a rotating cylinder and is applied to steam, water, and hot oil service. The SX incorporates two internal carbon-graphite bearings that permit self-alignment and long operating life – even on cylinders that are not concentric. Using new sealing technologies, the SX rotary joint has extended seal life and increased reliability along with application flexibility.</p>
<p>The convex seal ring and optimized seal diameter provide extended seal life and reduced maintenance for the SX rotary joint. The concept of applying different seal geometries to different media (steam, water, and oil) gives the SX rotary joint a strong point of differentiation as well as a marked improvement in performance.</p>
<p>The SX rotary joint line is available in sizes from ¾” to 3” and can be used in single- or dual-flow applications. The joint is rated up to 650° F (343° C), 300 psig (20 bar), and 550 RPM.</p>

<p>The SX cartridge is an economical and easy upgrade for users of Type S rotary joints. The cartridge includes all of the features and benefits of the SX rotary joint, less the head. Because you are able to re-use your existing head, flexible hoses, and syphon equipment, the SX cartridge requires no piping modifications and offers extended seal life, reduced maintenance, and improved joint and syphon support. The SX cartridge is available in sizes from ¾” to 3”.</p>

<p>For syphon sizing, proper syphon size is determined based on steam pressure, condensing rate and differential pressure.</p>

<p>Note that the horizontal pipe and vertical pipe are not the same size. The vertical pipe is one pipe size smaller. The smaller vertical leg limits blow-through steam and reduces the cantilevered weight of the syphon assembly. In turn, this reduces the stress on the pipe threads securing the horizontal pipe into the head of the rotary joint.</p>
